Hands down the most wonderful trail ride I've ever experienced. Penny, Jess, and Justin were phenomenal. The hands on approach set it apart from what any other places have offered in the past. It's educational, you get to do all of the work from carrying your saddles, brushing your horse, putting the saddle on, leading them from place to place ... Everyone learned so much and I'm so grateful our kids got to experience a place with so much heart, love, goodness, and fun. Penny is a gem and her stories were one of my favorite parts. Don't miss out on talking to her...I'm so grateful to have met all of them. If you're debating on if your family should do this the answer is an easy YES.
I came here twenty years ago as a little girl with my dad and have some of the best memories from this ranch! I wanted to return as an adult with my girlfriends and it was so confusing and difficult to coordinate that I ended up canceling our ride altogether. I hate to give a low rating, but I do think this needs to be addressed internally. I’ve been hesitant to write this but I feel as though it should be known within the family. When I called to set a date for a ride, the older woman I was speaking to seemed incredibly confused. I mentioned I had sent an email days prior but didn’t get a response and she was so determined to find the email, it took several minutes to get her back on track. After the two conversations I had with her, I now think she may have deleted it without even knowing. In our phone call, every date I asked for she’d say “I don’t know…” so I eventually just let her choose when we could come. I was trying to book a private ride for just my party and I and she kept saying “we’re a guest ranch, if people want to ride they can” but if you can have personal events here like a wedding, does that mean they aren’t private? Whoever shows up can attend? It was just odd to me. She also told me to call back a few days before our ride to “remind her and make sure we can still ride.” I was really confused and frustrated with the conversation and after taking a few days to think it over, I decided to call back. I left a voicemail asking if I could speak to someone else because the original phone call was very confusing. The same woman ended up calling me back and this is where I got very concerned for not only her but the business itself. In my message I mentioned being confused and having possible communication barriers and wanted to speak with someone else. When she called me, she opened the conversation with saying she was confused as to why I thought I hadn’t scheduled a ride when she had me in her calendar…I nicely told her that’s not why I called. I tried asking again if I could schedule a private ride for just me and my party and she said “oh we’re a slow paced ranch, we only walk. We don’t trot or lope”…? I said that was fine, we don’t mind just walking! I asked again if it was possible to schedule a private ride. She then asked me if she informed me on their dress code…I ended up thanking her for her time and asking to cancel our group because it just wasn’t going to work out. I would love to come back here as it’s a beautiful place with nice horses, but I’m at a loss of how I could possibly set this up with the current state of management. My heart goes out to the family and I truly hope this isn’t read as an attack but as someone who is worried for their family member and business. I would’ve sent this in an email, but I think she controls the email and I don’t know if it’ll ever be seen. I hope one day I can come back and enjoy this place! Sending love, light, and blessings.
We had a wonderful time in the big Cabin. We had a perfect trail, perfect weather. Our horses had their own space. The Cabin was clean and cozy with a hot tub! Penny was super accommodating and willing to help if we needed anything! We decided to make this a yearly event. Loved it!
This place was really fun and a great memory. Penny and her son Justin run the ranch. I stayed in the canvas tent up in the hills. I know hotel can’t compare with a beautiful night sky. The stars came out big and bright and I’m sure they twinkled at me. The animals in complete darkness make noise, but I never felt unsafe. What an amazing experience.
We had a great experience at the ranch. All the staff was super kind and welcoming. We learned a lot about getting the horses ready to ride and then the ride was very enjoyable. We will be back for sure.
