Riding Through Red Rock – A Trail Between Private Land and Public Forest We landed in LA(@losangeles) from Korea just yesterday and drove straight to Las Vegas(@vegas), checking into our hotel around 2 AM. Despite barely sleeping, my wife and I woke up early to catch our horseback trail ride at Red Rock Canyon(@redrockcanyonlv), departing from the Flamingo Hotel at 7:30 AM without even grabbing breakfast. This ride had been reserved three months in advance. The place is called Cowboy Trail Rides(@cowboytrailrides_), located just outside of Las Vegas. The trail begins on private land and leads into the vast public lands of the Red Rock National Conservation Area. And incredibly, we were the only two riders enjoying a completely private tour. My wife rode a gentle giant named Cadillac, and I was paired with Slim Jim: a tall, calm horse that carried me with ease through rocky paths and desert terrain. Our guide, Danish, was not only a skilled rider but a storyteller. As we climbed cliffs, descended ridges, and trotted through Joshua trees, she shared insights about the local flora, geology, ancient fossils, and wildlife. It wasn’t just a ride it was an educational journey through the heart of nature. We spotted jackrabbits, touched million-year-old stones, and rode under towering sandstone cliffs, all while immersed in the stunning, almost surreal scenery of Red Rock. This wasn’t just sightseeing it was communion with the land. What touched me most was how this experience blends private stewardship with public natural treasures, forming a kind of “forestry tourism” that’s deeply meaningful. I couldn’t help but think how beautiful it would be if we had more of this in Korea horseback riding as a medium to explore forests, learn ecology, and reconnect with nature. More than leisure, this kind of tourism is a bridge between people and the environment a path worth building, together.

The Sunset Trail Ride and BBQ dinner tour was incredible! The staff were friendly, helpful, and very engaging. The horses were the stars of the show- they knew exactly where to go and what to do. That was helpful since our group are novice riders. The scenery was unmatched. Hats off to Denise, Logan, and Jorge for being the best wranglers!

Trail Rides is a fun experience. The ranch hands see that you are safe and enjoy the time on the trail. The cowboys and cowgirls will offer to use your camera and take your photo as shown in one of the photos. Since moving to Vegas two years ago, my wife and I rode two times and my son rode with his cousin last June. My son recently rode with his girlfriend and they had a good time. The scenery is beautiful. Just riding a horse or mule is awesome while taking in the great outdoors.

The sunset trail ride with dinner is worth every penny!!!! When you book they call/text and ask you what meat you’d like they have steak, chicken, fish.. they pick you up at a scheduled time in a white shuttle bus and pick up few other people we had a medium sized group (11-15 people) the rude there the driver is nice offers cooled water bottles and ac on the bus, informs you about how everything is goin to go when you arrive at the ranch, you sign waivers/paper before you arrive and when you get there someone will come and tell you where the bathroom is, you wait a bit while they get the horses ready, give you your horses name - hop up on your horse/mule when they call you and chill until the ride begins. the ride is soooo calm and peaceful, quiet… the mountains are so stunning you could stare at them all day. the guides lime everyone up and take pictures for you. (you can also take pictures while riding be care not to drop your phone!) they provide water for the ride aswell and a little bag to hood any small items you may have and dont want to leave at the lunch tables or on the bus (though they’ll be safe!) only thing is i wish the guides tell you a little bit about the history of the land and you may even see some wild animals. we saw a coyote, rabbits, bats. when the ride comes to an end you can smell the DELICIOUS food that has been cooked and is fresh for you when you arrive. the food is the BEST food we had to whole time we stayed in vegas. reccomend getting the steak is soooo big and thick and juice and yummy you dont even need sauce. the potatoes sooooo goood. the corn and green veggies tasted so fresh. it was amazing. after you finish eating or if you dont they have aluminum foil so you can take ur leftovers, you have cowboy smores!! roasted marshmallows with chocolate cookies. delicious while sitting around the fire and stargazing. perfect way to end our trip. 10/10 recommend.

Favorite part of my most recent Vegas trip! Booked the trail ride for 9 a.m. Highly recommend it! I went during March so it wasn't hot, not sure how it works out during the summer. You get to see plenty of beautiful views and the different rock sediments! The horses seem like they're very well cared for. They know their way through the trail. For the most part, no horses gave anyone trouble. Just a couple moments of off-roading lol! Very safe and left wanting to go again🐎!
