Fishtail Ranch

Loved it! 3 bdrm cabin was beautifully decorated in cabin theme. Very clean,. Kitchen was fully stocked, even had a waffle maker!!! Dog friendly too! Quiet forest surrounded the cabin, but easily accessible. Will definately recommend to anyone !

I just returned with good friend Neil. It was my third trip, his 20 th. The experience there is top notch and first class! From the welcome night dinner through the entire week we are always treated well. The food is as good as any of mom’s best home cooked meals. When you have such a great Lady and Mom behind the scenes this is the result. Lee and Valerie make the best team to own and operate this 5 Star operation. I have had success 2 out of 3 trips and had the most enjoyable experiences 100 per cent of my time there. Lee had a dream and worked hard for it to come true. There isn’t a perfect outfitter, guide or hunting trip, however there are some that get close. Fishtail outfitter makes booking a hunt simple and fast. Grant has years of elk hunting experience, he knows elk. The proof is in my freezer for the second time. My hunting trip was a bucket list hunt, 3rd rifle. I wanted snow, cold and adventure plus an elk. I got more than I asked for in this adventure. The hunt started at 10,000+ feet with 2-3 feet of snow and plenty of cold. The trails we rode provided all the adventure I could have dreamed of experiencing. Grant and his horses are pros on this terrain the riders not so much. Grant is a cross between a mountain man and cowboy, he can ride and makes it look so easy. I told Grant he scared the life into me and the hell out of me, at the same time. This hunt was worth the cost even thought we did not find elk in the high country. Snow covered mountains; star filled skies a moon the scenery alone was worth the trip. The camp’s staff was professional and great sources of elk knowledge and stories. The cook wow his food was as good or better than any restaurant I have eaten. The tents were big, wonderful cots and pads, we had small propane heaters. This is alpine camping/hunting at its best, the way elk are meant to be hunted. This was my second hunt with Fishtail Outfitters, I have taken two elk. One hunter in camp has 11 consecutive hunts with them and has taken 10 elk with Fishtail. I am 68 years old; I would never choose any other outfitter at my age to take care of me and get me an elk. I hope at age 70 I can again hunt with Fishtail Outfitters. No there are not any perfect outfitters, guides or hunting trips, but Fishtail Ranch is dang close. If you want a fun camp, great guides, good food and perfect memories look up fishtail ranch, book a hunt! Oh, how did I get the elk into my freezer, book a hunt, and ask Grant (I told you knows elk). I can’t give away all the secrets of our wild winter wonderland hunt. Fishtail Ranch simple the BEST!

Excellent lodging, Excellent service, Excellent food and Excellent elk terrain. Unfortunately the average part was the hunting which is dependent on changing weather patterns to move elk around the area. Only a 25% bull success rate the week I was there because while the weather was beautiful and consistent, it didn't prompt any elk to move into the area. It's possible the 16 hunters the week before me or the 16 hunters the week after me had better success, but the week I was there was really slow. Owners Lee and Valerie are quality people and have a good team in place in this operation, and my sole complaint is that the area seemed over-hunted during my time there.
