Sage Peak Outfitters and Josh provided an epic experience for us. Astoundingly beautiful land and top shelf guides and crew. We had tons of fun, ate well, and got what we came for. Great horses and ability to navigate lots of terrain. These guys are sharp, woods wise, and have been guiding in this area for a long time…there’s no substitute for guides that know the land like they do. Definitely plan on using Sage Peak again.

Amazing hunt with my son for Elk & Deer. They went above and beyond to make our experience one we will never forget. I highly recommend Josh at Sagepeak. Reach out to me with any questions.

I recently completed a one week archery elk hunt with Sage Peak. I was not completely satisfied with my hunt because some of the advance promises and claims were not met. First, I was not assigned a highly experienced guide as personally promised by Kurt. Other hunters in our archery group did have more experienced guides, so you might be able to address this concern by personally and proactively working with Kurt. Second, I now know that the archery elk success rate on public land hunts is about 10-15%. Thus, Sage Peak’s touted access to public lands is not necessarily a benefit. This was the third archery week for Sage Peak, and only one elk was harvested and tagged during the three weeks. There were a couple of other shots taken without harvest. Thus, you should temper your expectations based on Sage Peak claims about the number of elk and shot opportunities. Further, the proximity to Yellowstone may actually be a negative – three hunters in our group saw wolves. The wolves lead the elk to be much quieter, to be more cautious and to move to other territory. Finally, the Sage Peak web site suggests that the horseback rides after the three hour trek to the camp would be short. The reality is that it was about an hour horseback ride to many of the hunting areas. A few areas were reached with shorter rides, but not most. The bottom line is this is a typical archery elk hunt on public land, and Sage Peak is probably comparable to many public land hunt outfitters. You need to make careful personal decisions and actively work pre-trip details to help improve and properly anticipate your experience with Sage Peak or any outfitter.

2021 Elk Archery Hunt. A genuine bucket list experience, wilderness hunting. Great times. Sage Peak and Josh provided everything discussed and promised. This is an actual wilderness hunt and fair chase at its finest. Beautiful country. My guide Ed did a great job. We heard or saw elk every day, some up close, heart-pounding experiences (also had a chance at a muley). Wilderness, horses, tents, camp stoves, great cooking, and a hot shower combined with miles of hunting on a horse and foot, I loved it!

Went for 3rd week archery and had a great time. Josh, his guides, and camp staff are incredible. You eat great the whole trip, and the accommodations are excellent. We were in elk nearly every day despite warmer than normal conditions. Definitely recommend this guide service, and I look forward to getting back out there soon.
