What a wonderful Family owned Ranch that makes you feel like family. All of their staff was amazing and so kind and it was great getting to have breakfast and dinner with each of them! They provide a packed lunch of your choice for the trails while out on horseback and I must say the Mountain View’s the trails led us to were absolutely beautiful. The wranglers were a delight to be with on the trails and very professional with safety in mind. The cabins were immaculate and house cleaning came every day. We even loved the visits from Nellie the family pet pig that roams around getting treats from the visitors. I can’t say enough good things about this Ranch. Highly recommend!!
The Covered Wagon Ranch is an amazing place! Kurt, Melissa and their two boys make you feel welcome as soon as your arrive. Their ranch is one of a kind, making you feel at ease and a part of their family. The staff are all very friendly and extremely helpful. Our family just spent this past week there and we are already talking about when we can come back! The relationships we made this past week are truly special. We are going to be so sad when reality sets in next week when we are back home. The cabins are all very nice, spacious, clean and cozy. The beds are very comfortable and I love the two room cabins since we have 2 kids, who had their own bedroom to sleep in. The bathrooms were clean and the showers were very nice and spacious. The lodge was very cozy and so nice to sit by the fire and enjoy your morning cup of coffee before breakfast. The food was excellent (even our packed lunches for our trail rides) and we loved that it was family style (with the exception of breakfast made to order!) and that the wranglers, Kurt and Melissa ate with us, which gave us even more time to get to know all of them! We loved that the ranch only has capacity for 20 people and with our family of 10, there were only 10 other folks there. The size of the ranch made it more personal and so family centered that our kids just felt right at home. They met other kids and enjoyed spending time with them in the rec hall just being kids, like at camp. The rides were amazing and every trail you go on is fantastic! We loved riding everyday and getting to know the wranglers who led our rides. They were so personable and knowledgeable! The Covered Wagon Ranch is the best and we are truly sad to leave. We easily could have spent another week there because one week went by too fast. Our daughter loves horses and got up early every morning to eat breakfast with the wranglers to help get the horses ready for the rides. Kurt and Melissa welcomed her as part of the "crew" and now she wants to come back and work as a wrangler when she is older! If you are debating on which ranch to go to, Covered Wagon is it! Don't even look at other places because Kurt and Melissa are the BEST!!
We had an absolutely outstanding week with everyone at CWR, and now my family can't wait to go back! There's a reason they have so much repeat business (one couple that was there have been coming each summer for 30 years!). I'm not going to describe the ranch: Go to their website and give them a call with any questions. What I _DO_ want to describe is the sense of belonging and comfort that everyone at CWR works to provide for all guests, from the moment you arrive. Disclosure: I worked at a remote fishing lodge in Alaska for 9 years, and we operated with the goal of making every guest feel like family. CWR is exactly the same, and that feeling adds to your enjoyment of your stay in ways you don't realize until you stop to think about why you're having such a good time. Owners, lodge staff, wranglers... Everyone is gracious and welcoming, and ask how they can make anything better (and they deliver!). Riding was wonderful, and plans are made each morning to keep riders interested and grouped according to skill and desired outcome for the day (Do you want to have an easy, open ride and be back for lunch? Do you want an all-day ride so you can cover a lot of ground? Do you want to see what mountain horses can do and tackle some climbing?). If you don't want to ride every day, there's a LOT to do, all within an hour's drive: A hot springs spa, fishing, rafting, Yellowstone, a super-cool alpaca farm. More importantly than that, what I loved the most was the connections we made with other guests, all strangers before this week. We now have mutual open invitations to visit all of our respective home-states (California, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Montana). I don't know how I can adequately express how happy I was to watch our kids "team up" with the children of other guests, and we didn't have to do anything more than remind them that they had to be up early to ride! They played games, taught some newbs how to make s'mores, and forgot about electronics while they were together. Glorious. I honestly can't think of a reason to NOT come here. CWR should be your first choice, if you want to stay in a beautiful place and ride horses.
Kindest people you’ll meet. Great experience. The horses are well behaved and beautiful. Work great with our two kids. We will 100% be going again. Could not recommend more.
My husband and I visited the ranch in mid-September with his brother and sister. We had a wonderful experience and definitely want to visit again. Keep in mind it's a small family run rustic ranch. The cabins are from the 1920s with pot-bellies stoves, but very comfortable. The food and service was great. The chef even prepared special meals for my husband who is vegetarian. Because we had a small group at end of the season we got to know everyone -- guests and staff. We adore our wrangler, BC, who was patient and encouraging.
