It was a great experience, we woke up and followed the guide close to the spot where we were hunting. Then the guide carried all of our stuff to the blind including us. We had about 30 mins before hunting light to set up and chat with buddies. After 6:09 on 11/23/19 we started shooting and there were birds everywhere! A little over two hours we hit our limit on ducks and we were out of there. Best experience I’ve had in years. Thank you Mr. Kevin and our guide Ryan!
Kevin and his staff far exceeded my expectations at making sure everyone in our group was comfortable and having a great time. The lodge was very unique and clean with an open design and plenty of couches and chairs throughout to watch a game or just relax in. The game room was older but fun with a pool table, bar, card table and a foosball table. There was lots of space to hang out in if you wanted. The kitchen has a very large picnic table to eat at and the meals were an exquisite combination of home cooked and local cuisine. I highly recommend the food! The sleeping quarters had bunk beds and could easily fit 15 men just in the downstairs room. Upstairs had another room with more beds although I didn't count how many in total. The most important thing to me was the mattress were clean and very comfortable. Worth a mention is they also have a very helpful hook on them to hang your hunting outfit for morning. The outside temperature on day one was unusually high for mid December (in the upper 80's.) and we actually had to run the ac which brings up the beds also had plenty of blankets. The ac will get it cold as you want...fast. The downstairs bathroom had one shower with good water pressure and unlimited hot water. The 2nd downstairs bathroom just has a commode next to the gameroom and we never looked upstairs for a bathroom or shower. The hunting blinds were about a 20 minute drive from the lodge. They were well placed and overlooking the rice fields. They were well hidden and enough room to sit and a shelf for ammo. The blind had enough space for 4 large men without feeling cramped. I wore my waders day one and found out our guides had gone out (at what must have been 2am), set out all the decoys and pumped the water out to about 4" before they met us. It rained all night after day one and I wore my rubber boots the next morning with no issues. Due to the high temperature on day one we didn't get anything despite the incredible job of duck calling from our guide. Simply put the weather did not cooperate. The next morning the temperature had dropped 30* overnight into the 40's. There must have been an overnight memo to migrate because there were THOUSANDS of geese flying and random flocks of ducks inbetween. Our guide did a stellar job calling them in although he could have been slightly louder at conveying exactly where they landed. I can say noise cancelling headphones rather than earplugs would have been better. The advice I would give anyone asking would be: if your a group of actual hunters looking for a comfortable, clean hunting lodge to stay in, and local guides that truly know the area; this is the place you want to be.
I went on a guided hunt for my birthday!I was told we was gonna have a home cooked meal it didn’t happen we ate plate lunches !! It was supposed to be the best comfortable blinds that wasn’t true either blinds were small your knees would touch the wall !! If you stayed in the lodge you was supposed to get the best blinds the hunt wasn’t all that only a total of 8 ducks killed with 3 hunters !! The dog would jump gun when someone shot that wasn’t professional at all !! For a duck and goose combo there was 1 goose decoy !! After the hunt he didn’t have the decency to come talk to us to ask how the hunt went !! The other two parties didn’t even kill any ducks !!! I can understand that you can’t control how the birds was flying that day but there was people snipe hunting all around near our hunting area !! I would not advise anyone to use this outfitter it’s a joke don’t waste your time and money
Went out in the second split a few years ago right after Christmas with my dad. Ross was an awesome guide we killed a bunch of birds and shot plenty of shells and definitely got our money worth. This one trip broke in my shotgun on its own lol. Ross was able to call the ducks into the decoys and we had a blast can’t wait to make another trip really soon.
I wanted to follow up on my post and because we did get our money back. Kevin tried at all cost not to refund my money even though we never came to hunt and canceled 10 hours after we booked. Kevin will tell you he has a no refund policy but the honest guy always win. STAY AWAY!!!!!!! Avoid Cajun Wildlife Adventurers at all cost. Kevin is one of the most unprofessional guides I have ever spoken too. Kevin tried to raise the cost of our hunt by $750.00 as we were driving to his lodge in Louisiana. We decided to cancel our trip due to the way we were being treated before we even showed up. If your looking for the classic bs hunting guide sign up with Cajun Wildlife Adventurers and ask for Kevin.
