My stepfather and I recently this January went out for their doe reduction hunt on the preservation. We had a blast. Ken and Captain Dave delivered. Felt like long time friends, even family immediately. Lodge was nice, clean and modern (for this hunt you would likely have the place to yourself). We saw so many deer. Never had a moment hunting out on public land like that. Sure it's high fence, but it doesn't matter. They may as well have been running free. We felt spoiled in our warm blind, dry and all. Dave drive us out in a side by side. Saw so much action that afternoon it became comical. You have to see it to believe it. We got 2 does same day, great time to spend with friends or family. Family-friendly place. Great for those being introduced to the sport, or you just haven't had much luck out on public and want to fill your freezer. 10/10 I've booked it again. Saw several great bucks while on our hunt. Real monsters.

I could write a story about the last few years of hunting, but we'll keep it short. Spend your money elsewhere. The business isn't run the same as it used to be. The odds aren't in your favor and you will not be getting any deposit back. There is a reason so many do not return.

Ken and Midwest Woodlots is a first class experience. From scheduling, great good, perfect lodge, and an amazing hunt. I drove up the evening of 5-10. We had some amazing bbq pulled pork and the hunters chatted about experiences. Ken took me to the blind early and put me in the honey hole. 636am I sealed the deal on a big 24.9 lbs Tom.

This is our second-year hunting with Midwest Woodlots and it is the worst hunting experience I have ever had, and clearly a waste of money and time. Captain Dave the runner of the show is not about his hunters and seeing us succeed in getting a buck. He overbooks the hunts and has 20 hunters out in the blinds, its more about how much money he can make in a season. When you see a deer it automatically stares at your blind that's when you know it has been over hunted. Dave isn't about tagging out his customers and putting us first, he is all about money and more money. He allows his staff, himself, and his kid to hunt first and take massive bucks before any of the customers arrive. I didn't personally see one 130 inch buck, which is their major rule if you don't shoot a 130 inch minimum buck you have to pay a $500.00 fine. We were promised that we would be the only three hunters for the weekend and staying in the lodge. We arrived to find 17 more hunters staying in the lodge and then we were booted to another place above a garage with no heat because there was no room for us. His success rate is about 5%. Also one of our hunters were left in the blind past dark for two extra hours because they forgot about him. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON COMING TO HUNT HERE!!!!!

I had a great time at Midwest Woodlots. Easy for me to say since I was able to take a very nice deer, you might think. However the whole experience was first rate. First, let me say I have hunted for over 40 years back in Michigan, and have taken multiple guided hunts elsewhere. Had property in N MI where I was lucky to even see an 8 pt every two or three years. Then had a lease in the thumb of MI and the neighbors stuck to the edges and kept the big guys out. Not only did I get a very nice buck with Ken and company, I also saw over a dozen 8 pt or better, along with many smaller bucks. It was great to have the chance to pass on nice bucks and see how they work. As for the folks, the equipment and accommodations they are all top notch. Somehow I was lucky enough to have Capt Dave be my mentor. He loves this stuff and is 100% committed to making everything go as smooth and successful as possible. His enthusiasm is infectious and it helps greatly when you are sitting 12 hours a day in a box.
