I'm a guy who likes a natural hunt, and clubs seem to have a hard time creating that. But this is different, the birds are a good size and run more than you might think. When you walk out there it's a true hunt! This is a nice piece of land and great people!
The terrain of this club varies from open fields of thick cover to wooded areas and even some marsh land. We loved the wooded areas as it simulated a grouse hunt. The birds were huge compared to what I’ve found elsewhere. This place is not your typical released bird hunt.
I have a lot of memories at McCollum Lake coming here with my grandfather & father for as long as I can remember (20+ year). My dad and I can both say that our first pheasant hunt was at McCollum Lake. The property is big, beautiful and diverse. The members of the club are down to earth and all share the same passion. In the last 10+- years, occasionally some of the previous people running the place made me feel like something was off. The atmosphere could feel cold/unwelcoming/unorganized at times. Fast forward to 2025: The club is now under new management. My father brought me out as a guest in January for my first hunt of 2025 and we got to meet the new staff. I remember talking on the way home about how the atmosphere in the club did a 180; the place was clean and we felt welcome. The changes were obvious and we had an outstanding 1st hunt of 2025. After 4 more hunts in 2025, I can definitely say the club is back on the right track! I am excited to come back this summer to shoot clays, target shoot, camp and go fishing! Can't wait for hunting season to start next fall!
Being a member here has been worth every penny! I love being able to pheasant hunt nearly every weekend of the season being so close to home, and getting to bring my friends and family as guests. The property really offers the "hunting on the farm" type of experience. As a dog breeder and trainer, I think getting your dogs in the field regularly is a must, and McCullom Lake has been the reason why I am able to do that. The management team is outstanding too. If you are looking to join a preserve and enjoy this sport, I highly recommend giving this club a look!
We were able to come today as a guest and what a fun time. The kids were able to walk and enjoyed themselves immensely. We ended with 7 birds and had a blast. Even though the season is almost over we plan on getting back here much more next year.
