I am posting several months after the “hunt.” After months of researching a fair chase opportunity on good genetics, we landed on cedar ridge whitetails. The owner, Sam, was convincing on the phone but as time passed there was less reassurance. I had the opportunity to go to a high fence preserve and albeit I had my reservations, Sam reassured my friend and I, it would be a great hunt. My friend had saved for a long time and wanted the opportunity to harvest a once in a lifetime animal and didn’t want to do it alone. I was thrilled. We planned, we practiced, and we prepared for the chance to throw an arrow at something we would never see on the mineral deficient hills of Arkansas. We drive 9 hours and pulled into the property. It was beautiful. Felt smaller than what was sold over the phone, Facebook, and instagram. We talked ourselves down and said, “I bet it goes further back.” Once meeting Sam, we convinced ourselves that we were delusional and it surely wasn’t as it seemed. After preparing to hunt the first evening, our “hunting guide” showed up in his company work truck and rubbed some pine tree needles on his hand to be “scent free.” It almost covered up the menthol cigarette. The first night seemed okay, as I had to pass on some great deer. The next morning, we were rushed and were told to how and where we would kill these deer. “Don’t want them to break dollars off their antlers.” After both me and my friend harvested these incredible once in a lifetime deer, if even then, did I really figure out the process. While Sam had sold us a breeding and genetic program over many years, it was actually a program where he bought the deer. They were tranquilized and brought to the “farm.” Felt like a bad Nicolas Cage film on Netflix. They were higher than snoop dog and willie on an anniversary tour sponsored by Pablo Escobar. They weren’t able to respond as usual. Our guide threw a corn cob at one to flush him out of the corn stalk 25 yards away. My final word to anyone considering Cedar Ridge whitetails. If you are not a hunter and haven’t hunted day in and day out for a 125” deer at one point in your life, this place is for you. If you want to show up, kill a deer that would snuggle up next to you on a field of crimson clover, call Sam. If you hunt and want to harvest a magazine worthy animal and want the entire experience and opportunity, do not call Sam. In fact, don’t go anywhere around this place. You will need to take 30 showers to feel clean again after the dirty hunt you took part in. The mount was done by someone who studied taxidermy with a monocular and then decided he would want to try it as Helen Keller would. Impressive for someone who is blind. But if you have two eyes, there is no way you would present that as your work. Mine still had a tick in the fur.

Sam truly treats his guests with respect and genuine hospitality. I've had the pleasure of seeing his entire operation, and it's clear that he takes great pride in everything he does.

Unlike some of the other reviews that I read I found Sam and Cedar Ridge on Facebook watched his page for several months then reached out to Sam After a few weeks of talking decided to take the trip with my son. Sam was great the hospitality was perfect. Ralph was guiding and was excellent with my son who was able to harvest his first deer. Others say that the deer didn’t move etc. that wasn’t the case for my son and I. We had an excellent experience and we will be back next year

This place isn’t for hunting deer, it’s a supermarket where you’re shopping for bargain and clearanced meat that has been pumped full of chemicals to make it seem appealing, but it’s just crap. IT IS NOT DEER HUNTING IF YOU JUST HUNT DEER THAT ARE HIGH ON TRANQUILIZERS IN A GIANT FENCED IN YARD!!!!!!!

Read up on the place. It’s a sheet hole. You are not a hunter if you go here to kill a deer. Like other reviews have said. Deer are drugged. They’re pets. Shake a pail of corn and take your pick. Depending on how deep your wallet it. Place is a joke.
