Just finished hunting with Mile High. After 3 days of hunting, I harvested a bull elk. My guide (Sam) was knowledgeable, energetic and dedicated. He worked very hard to achieve a successful harvest. He got the mules ready every morning and prepared breakfast and a bag lunch. At the end of day, he would unsaddle the mules, graze and water them and begin spotting for Elk for next day. After sunset he would prepare dinner. It is a true wilderness horseback/tent experience. Area is remote and non-pressured and we saw Elk every day. The mules are very well trained and do a lot of the work. However, hunters must be prepared to trek some difficult country and be content with remote camps. Overall, it is a quality operation and the elk seem plentiful.

Booked a hunt with Mile High Outfitters for a Front Range hunt. This was my first elk hunt and I wanted the horseback/wall tent style hunt. From the camp to the hunt it was truly top notch. Travis and all the guides went above and beyond to make sure you had a great time. Really down to earth people and I really feel I made some friends. Me being a first time western hunter it was a big transition from what I know of hunting and they answered all my questions in preparing. The terrain was tough but accurately described on the website; everything was earned and the mountains will not give you anything, yet that's part of the adventure. Andrew was my guide and I couldn't have asked for a better one, he worked extremely hard to get me in a good position for an elk and the second day we were able to get it done. I really think he is part mountain goat. Wayne was the camp cook and you never left hungry and the food was always left out for us because we got back to camp late. He makes great lasagna. I had only ridden a horse a few times but they let me ride Rosie and she was a wonderful horse. You can really tell they care for their animals too. Just make sure above all you condition for the elevation and terrain and make sure you have good equipment you are comfortable with. And make sure your boots are broken in. They can help with a lot but it is definitely a partnership and they rely on you and much as you them. I think that's how it should be though. They really made the experience great and the sights set a new bar for beauty. If you want a true, real deal horseback "Jeremiah Johnson" style hunt where everything is earned and you want to hunt with great people, hunt here. If I could put more stars I would.

Absolutely amazing! Matt was an amazing guide and went above and beyond my expectations! If you are willing to do what it takes they will go any where to get you in the game! They know their land and animals. Definitely did not go hungry as planned meals were more than I could eat! Can't wait to go back out with these guys in back country!

Great outfit. Really good guides. Unique experience all around. On my trip 5 of the 6 hunters got an elk besides me. However it was still an awesome hunt. I got on a bull but could not get a shot. I'm going back for another hunt.
