I had a great hunt with Ben and Jim and Hunting Iowa Whitetails. The layout of food plots, top notch tower blinds, and tree stands all monitored by trail cams is well designed and effective in drawing game. When I had an equipment mishap on the first day, with the potential of ending my hunt and causing me to miss a 150 buck, Ben went above and beyond to assist me with another option and I was able to harvest a nice eleven point on the next to last day. The Dahls are first class people with great property and lots of deer.
I was invited to join friends to hunt the first gun season at Hunting Iowa Whitetails. Upon arriving at the property we were greeted by Ben and Jim to go over the property and blinds. The group I was hunting with had been here for a couple years already so it was a quick going over before we used Ben and Jim’s 4x4 Ranger to bring our gear to the blinds we’d hunt this week. I was hunting a food plot in a insulated Muddy blind set perfectly on the edge of the plot. While Steve and I were loading my blind we had two shooter bucks come into the plot and my heart raced. Opening day the next morning couldn’t come soon enough. The next morning we got to the blinds about 30 minutes before shooting light. At 0645, legal shooting light the action started. I had a small 120 class eight pointer walk into the plot crossing to the woods on the other side. I was thrilled!!! At 0700 I saw a 140 class eight pointer (the one we saw the day before while setting up) enter the end of the field, 91 yards from my blind. While glassing this buck I reached for my rifle but quickly caught movement coming into the plot from my right. I went back to glassing the incoming deer. It was two does with a huge ten pointer with them. The three of them walked through the plot heading for the opposite woods. I swapped the glasses for the rifle and took my mark. A loud Meh to stop this huge buck did the trick and I pulled the trigger on my biggest buck in my 60 years. I brought the deer to Old Barn to get butchered and caped and was told they thought he was in the 150s. When I finally got my trophy home and scored him, I was thrilled to finally have a 154 3/8 buck. With the broken g3 he should come in at 161 1/8. Thank you Ben and Jim Dahl for my biggest buck ever. I’ll be back for sure!! Hugh Diver Midddle Island NY
What a beautiful piece of property! This farm has it all. From quality food plots to thick nasty cover. And lots of deer. I did a late season muzzleloader hunt and had unseasonably warm temps the week I was there. All the way up into the 50's. Although I didn't harvest a deer, seeing anywhere from 5-15 bucks in a sitting was the normal. Jim was extremely friendly and accommodating to say the least. I wish it didn't take so long to draw an archery tag for non residents. Would love to bow hunt this farm. Joe
