I’ve researched several places to take my bird dogs and so grateful I chose Steel Fork Pheasants! I don’t worry about them when I leave them with Andy. Andy is top notch! He come with rave reviews on training bird dogs and is very reasonable, respectable, professional, and trustworthy! I wouldn’t choose any other! I may have to drive a bit to get there but is so worth it and my peace of mind! I have a 7 yr old English pointer and a 2 1/2 yr d wild GSP. He gives me updates and sends a pic or two!! Andy Taylor is THE BEST! Thank you Andy!
Watch out for Colorado sunflowers in the fall. I'd recommend a long-sleeve. Fantastic terrain, guides, and dogs sure made for a great guided pheasant hunt experience!
As a hunter I understand not every hunt is lights out. However, coming to a farm and paying for birds I expect a higher chance for success. We were a party of three, running two experienced dogs. We bought the minimum of 5 pheasant per person, not knowing we’d be placed on a 340 acre field. Talk about finding needles in a hay stack. We systematically hunted the field for 5:30 hours total, saw 4 birds and yielded two. After a disappointing hunt it was time to square up with the bill, where I then found out I was paying more than advertised according to their website; more salt in the wound. I’m by no means trying to bash their business. The owners are very friendly and welcoming. But I will not be going back.
It would be worth the trip just for Rod and Rhonda's hospitality (and cinnamon roles) not to mention the fact that you get your dog as much bird work in a day as I would have time for in a season driving to public land. Rod will provide you with birds and a large area with good cover for you to set up training situations as you see fit. Very nice club house and warm area to clean your birds too. I will be back!
Hunting at Steel Fork is like being lucky enough to have family with hunting ground. Some pheasant clubs have a reputation for being stuffy, uppity places but that is not the case here. Rod, Rhonda and Andy are just a great, down to earth farm family who have developed a very enjoyable place to hunt. We'd all like enough wild birds to hunt but since that is not going to happen in this part of Colorado, this is the next best thing. A membership is a great value compared to driving hundreds of miles to pursue bird hunting.
