Staff and owner were about the nicest people you have ever met. They will help you out anywhere they can. It’s truly a self guided experience, so take their advice and pointers and you’ll be on what ever you’re after. I would focus on one Or the other if you want bear focus strictly on bear if you want fish go after fish. Food was amazing, cabin was warm. Don’t expect a full resort, it’s a self guided trip and they give you the tools it’s up to you to make it happen. Me and my buddies went down for bear and tagged out. We just listen to what they recommended and we did the rest.
This place is a not so hidden gem. We went in May and it was just an amazing adventure. The views are spectacular. The eagles will take your breath away. Considering we were up super early fishing and hunting…. This was the most relaxed I have been in 20 years. The people are absolutely amazing and go way out of their way to ensure you have the best vacation. We are already booked next year with 20 of our closest friends.
Staff was great, however, there was a septic leak somewhere that you could smell around most of the rooms. Management should up their game a bit.
Brandon picked us up from the airport at 1130am. Our first stop was at the store for personal supplies for the week. A short ride to the boat launch and a shorter ride across the Narrows in the Landing Craft to the Lodge. Staff handle everything, we just stood back and enjoyed the ride. Our cabin was aged but very clean and comfortable. We were able to get briefed and sign waivers in time to get out for an afternoon trip day of arrival and managed to find a nice 56 pound halibut. Sam and Brady were very helpful with locations and had our boat gassed and bait ready every day. It was our first time in SE Alaska fishing but we are very experienced with our home waters in Washington for Salmon, Halibut and Lingcod. We limited on Halibut every day following bringing home 2 fifty pound boxes of filets each. Paige in the kitchen had our breakfast sandwiches ready every morning and we made our sack lunches. Her dinners were excellent all week. Unfortunately the salmon run was struggling this year and ADFG reduced limits the day before we arrived. Very well organized self guided lodge. We let them know our plan and bait/gear needs and they had it ready to go when we got to the boat each morning. The only cons I can think of are the unknowns we wished we had been able to plan for. Limited availability of ice on the island for our take along cooler and gear other than basic terminal tackle. We caught our fish on their gear without a problem, limiting on halibut most days in the first few hours before switching over to salmon. Brandon runs a 1st Class operation. We know we will be back again, but later, for Silvers and ‘buts.
We had an 8 person group, so we split our group across two boats. We upgraded to the covered boats and it's absolutely worth it to upgrade. We spent the first couple days fishing for King Salmon at the river. The lodge provides boats and vans to get you there. Then we spent the rest of the week fishing for halibut. Our group didn't have a lot of fishing experience, but the lodge staff did a good job of explaining how to use all the equipment, and we ended up very successful. We're all bringing home a bunch of fish! The lodge provides hot breakfast and dinner, which are always great. Everything from prime rib to enchiladas, breakfast burritos to french toast. Served family style, and always plenty for everyone. All the staff were fantastic. So kind and helpful. The owner is a great guy, and he helped us arrange a pontoon plane ride, which took us on a sightseeing tour of the nearby glaciers.
